The KNLS Tuning Signal

Most shortwave stations begin each broadcast by playing a station theme song or sound for several minutes.  This special signal helps listeners find or "tune" the station even when reception is poor. The Station KNLS tuning signal is played for two or three minutes at the beginning of each hour-long transmission.  Would you like to hear a fifteen second realaudio recording of the KNLS tuning signal?

Seasonal QSL

The New Life Station, KNLS, would love to have a reception report from your part of the world.  To encourage you to file a report, we offer a special QSL card at the beginning of each broadcast season. Only 200 special cards are awarded each season.  Each card is individually numbered and features a full color photo of Alaska.  See the notes above for details concerning how your report should be prepared and submitted.

A Note For DX Beginners

If you are new to the world of shortwave distance (DX) listening, then you may be confused by some of the terms and expressions used on this page.  Let us recommend the Carl Mann series of books and tapes for DX beginners.  Carl has written these materials especially for KNLS and they are offered to you without charge or obligation.  DX Tips For Beginners and Radio Propogation For Beginners are available in both book and audio cassette form.  DX Definitions For Beginners is available only on audio cassette.  Would you like to browse DX Definitions For Beginners online?  Would you like to jump to the free books page, or jump to the free tapes pages from here?
