I just came from the hospital room of a family member. His wife was 21 weeks into her pregnancy and she began to have contractions and she miscarried and the baby died. Because of some complications, she now may not be able to have any more children. Up until yesterday afternoon, they both had hope. Hope – how important it is in our lives. How are things with you today? What is going on around you and what have those circumstances done to your level of hope. Hope about the most important things about life, is still possible because of some things and in spite of some things. I wish you and I could sit together and talk for a few minutes about the things that are interfering with your hope. The God of heaven, who created and sustains everything and everybody is still on His throne. He is the source of our hope. Let’s pray to Him together.

I am so glad you and I have a few minutes together today. I wish we could sit down and visit in person for a while so I could know exactly what things with which you are dealing today. It would help me to know what I should pray for when I pray with you. Did you realize that praying can change your life and your attitude. Praying to God tells God and demonstrates to us what things are important to us. It shows the things that we want most to change or things with which we are having the most difficulty dealing. When you pray to God about those things, you are asking him to intervene and enter your life and make a difference. And when that happens, your life is sometimes changed. But also realize when you pray about some things, about which some change might or might not occur, that praying about them recommits you to the things that are the most important to you. Praying can give you energy, enthusiasm and commitment about the things about which you talk to the God of the universe. Praying therefore sometimes changes things around us but it can always change you and me. Let’s pray to God through the name and authority of His Son, Jesus the Messiah.

Jesus, the Messiah, was ask one time if He would teach His followers how to pray. He answered in a very simple way. This was his answer:

Did you notice the simple words? Did you notice the length of the prayer? Prayer is simply talking to the God of the universe like you would a friend but with reverence and respect. Did you know that you can pray anywhere? Did you know that you can pray at anytime? I really respect those who pray many times through out the day. It is good to know that the God of the universe is always listening to our prayers. Let’s pause right now and pray.

"I met her today. She heard me pray on radio when she was being held in a jungle in the Philippine Islands. She had been captured by terrorists and lived on the run for a year. She and her husband heard me pray for people like them who were being held prisoner or were being abused because of their faith. When I first heard the story about her, it made me think differently about the short time we had together praying. I want you to know that I am more mindful than I have ever been for you and your personal situation. I wish I could sit down with you and hear your concerns and see life from where you sit. Until I get to meet you and visit with you in person, I want to talk to the God of the universe about you. It is the best thing I can do until then. Pray with me.

When my daughter became scared in the middle of the night, I would encourage her to cuddle up to her many dolls and stuffed animals that she had in her room. During one of our middle of the night, during a storm, conversations she said, "Dad, I need to cuddle with someone with skin on them". Fear can remove peace and joy from our lives so quickly. Fear paralyzes. Fear destroys. You may be living in fear today. Did you know that you are on the mind of the God of the universe? Did you know that listening to and talking to God can take away fear? Have you every just felt overwhelmed and everywhere you turn is bad news or a dead end? Do you ever look around and see danger, feel fear and find no answers to your problems? I am probably embarrassed by the little things that make me feel that way in my life compared to the issues that you face. You might be looking out your window and see tanks and guns. You might be in a long line to receive clean water, good food or needed medicine. You may be at a hospital, in a prison or be sad because you have just lost a person to death that you love.

You and I serve a God that knows about those things today that are overwhelming us. God may choose to stand beside you through your difficulties or He say deliver you from them. He may have something better planned for you or there may be some things that God wants you to learn only by living through those issues. He hurts with us when we hurt because He cares. Sometimes when God is all we have do we realize that God is truly all that you and I need. The best thing you can do when life around you seems hopeless and helpless is to pray. Let’s pray to the Father for a few minutes.

The God of creation made you and me so unique that there is no one like us in all the world. No one in the world has our finger prints and no one in the world has our chromosome make up. Our DNA is different than everyone else in the world. All the billions of people that have lived in this world since Adam and Eve are all different. But the God of creation made us with a desire to have a relationship with us. He wants us to know Him and talk with Him in prayer and learn from Him in the Word that He gave to us. What a thought! The God of the universe wants to have a relationship with you and me. Friends that know each other talk often. I am so glad that you and I can pray together today. I am so very glad that you and I can pray to a God of creation that wants us to talk with Him often. And we can continually talk with Him when we pray.
