Gianna says, "I was delivered alive in an abortion clinic on April the sixth, nineteen seventy-seven to everyone’s great shock and surprise. They did not expect this baby girl to be alive."

The clinic staff flew into a panic and - against all policy - one of the nurses called an ambulance. Gianna was rushed to a local hospital and although underweight she was in remarkably good health.

Gianna concludes, "The Lord obviously had a plan and a purpose for me, as he does for us all. He (God) did not allow me to die and I stayed in that solution for approximately eighteen hours, which is absolutely miraculous."

Birth hasn’t been Gianna’s only challenge in life. She suffers from cerebal palsy and has endured the wrath of the American pro-abortion community for her outspoken opposition to murdering the unborn.

"As I was moving down through all of the people," Fred Allen recalls, "this huge white man from Iowa just came up and picked me up and just squeezed me and said, ‘I’m not going to let you go till you forgive me.’ And he said, ‘I’ve never touched a black man in my life and I’ve never had a chance to be forgiven.’"

Evangelist Allen likens the experience to the biblical account of the Jewish patriarch Jacob wrestling with one of God’s angels. Allen believes God used this heart broken Christian man from Iowa to wrestle with the racism he held in his own soul.

Evangelist Allen recalls a troubling conversation the two men had, "And he said to me, ‘If you are appointed to this church,’ and using the ‘n’ word, ‘I will do all in my power to destroy you, your ministry, and this church as a matter of fact.’"

In spite of the threat, Fred Allen took the assignment. Within days of the appointment, the church treasurer, a man named Keith, suffered a heart attack and lay near death’s door. Evangelist Allen says he found himself actually hoping that God would let the man die. Looking back now, Allen says it was the spiritual armor of God described in the Bible book called Ephesians that allowed him to sit by the man’s side, day after day, while he slowly recovered.

Allen recalls the experience saying, "I had to be well fortified during those days. I could not have done that on my own. So I needed to protect myself against myself and against Keith. And so I armed myself with those five (spiritual) weapons."

His first Sunday back in church, Keith the treasurer stood and interrupted evangelist Allen’s sermon to ask the minister to forgive him his prejudice. The two men embraced as the entire congregation wept openly.

Kim recalls the moment saying, "I speak Spanish and so I said to her, ‘You don’t look like you’re feeling very blessed. Is there something you’d like to talk about?’

The woman sat down next to Kim and said, ‘Yeah, thank you! I really would like to talk.’"

Kim soon discovered that her seatmate was also pregnant with a second child and very concerned about what the future might hold. She was having some difficulty with her marriage and had serious questions about the depth of God’s love.

Kim continues to recall her words that day, "And so I said to her some verses that any (Christian child) who’s been through one year of Sunday (morning Bible study) knows. You know, about there’s nothing we can do to separate us from the love of God and verses about Christ’s mercy and they just really touched her and she cried and sobbed."

A fresh reminder about God’s unconditional love was all the Argentine mother-to-be needed. She left feeling much closer to the Lord.

Kim would later wonder, what were the odds that a Spanish speaking American, pregnant with her second child, would travel all the way to Buenos Aries and sit down in a packed stadium next to the one person who needed her most? When God reaches out for you, there’s no where to hide!

Kim recalls the day set for the adoption, saying, "We were all there with our attorney and the orphanage had an attorney and the mayor of the little village was there to witness this. The mom put the pen to the paper and put the pen down and said, ‘I can’t do it.’"

The loss was devastating. Even more so when the Hursts had to watch helplessly from a distance, as their almost daughter’s life began to unravel. Now an adult, Erica has taken a path away from God. But then they plow into Leviticus and Numbers only to get bogged down in the rules and regulations found there. Many readers skip these books or stop reading all together. And that’s too bad, because there are some real pearls of wisdom to be found in these vital chapters.

A few years back medical researcher doctor S. I. McMillen did a thorough study of God’s health regulations as delivered to the ancient Israelite nation through the Jewish patriarch Moses. He was stunned by what he found. The instructions reflect an understanding of disease, personal hygiene and public health far beyond the scientific knowledge of the ancient world.

For example, the children of Israel were encouraged to bury waste well away from their homes, a practice not undertaken by western civilization until little more than two hundred years ago. The Jews were also told to avoid eating whole classes of animal flesh. Science has since shown these meats to be the ones most likely to carry disease or parasites.

Dr. McMillen discovered that, because the Jews adhered to God’s instruction, they were largely free of the debilitating diseases that plagued their ancient middle-eastern neighbors.

It often takes centuries, even millennia for worldly wisdom to catch up to truths recorded long ago in the Holy Scriptures.

What Balan didn’t know is that in China it is illegal to teach young people about God. When Balan arrived at the church he was shocked to find hundreds of teenagers milling around outside the front gates. They were being prevented from entering by state police who had the building surrounded. Security guards reluctantly told Balan that he and his friends would be permitted inside. But as the gates were opened a riot broke out.

Balan recalls the chaotic seen by saying, "As our friends were going in the crowd started surging forward to get past the gates and the police started beating them over the head with clubs and they were still trying to get past the gates to get into the church. And this girl cried out and said to me, ‘Please! I want to get into Jesus’ House!’"

Balan rushed back and began dragging more teens past the gates, telling the guards that each one was yet another of his friends. He was able to get dozens more young people into the church before security closed the gates for good.

Inside the church, a scene Balan will never forget. He recalls, "…the memory of people with blood on their faces wanting to get into church. We got in there and in a corner of the church we were able to share with these students, hundreds of them, the meaning of Christmas and the meaning of God and what He could do in their lives."

Chris describes the field saying, "It’s dusty. The wind is blowing and it’s blowing up into your face. There are bits of concrete slab strewn about on the field and no nets on the goals, just some wooden posts."

Americans are not known for their soccer skills, but the local team was impressed and a quick camaraderie developed between the two squads. Still, the Americans were surprised a couple of nights later when the entire Brazilian team showed up at a local Christian church. The two squads enjoyed a time of worship together.

Chris recalls that night saying, "And we sang praises and just basically lifted up the Lord unashamed…not knowing the effect until two days later. The coach of this in town team was saved that night."

It’s a command that Tina Bruner (BREW-ner) and her fellow Christian missionaries take seriously. So on a recent visit to the African nation of Zambia, Tina and her team braved appalling conditions to meet the medical needs of inmates at a local prison. The missionaries spent some hard days treating horrible injuries and vile diseases under less than ideal circumstances.

They also tried to heal the spiritual wounds suffered by the prisoners with words of encouragement from the Bible. On one special night the inmates were reminded that we are all prisoners to our own sin and only Jesus Christ has the power to set us free. The prisoners were so overwhelmed by this message of hope that they spontaneously broke into joyful song before the lesson was even finished. Tina and her teammates were amazed by the response.

She recalls the experience saying, "Even in the condition when people are not free, that their spirit could sing…and that was just an amazing thing for us to witness."

So a team of American missionaries from "…the land of the free and the home of the brave," unexpectedly learned some valuable lessons about the true meaning of freedom.

Tina concludes by saying, "You start to think about the hope that we have in Christ, the freedom we have through His sacrifice. You know - that transcends really everything."

No wonder the Son of God, Jesus Christ, could say with confidence, "If the Son sets you free you are free indeed."
